GBP200 Olympic Parking Fines
A decision not to raise parking fines in London to £200 during the Olympics, announced on 16 March, has been warmly greeted by the Freight Transport Association (FTA).
The news comes as research from the FTA reveals that truck and van operators in central London have seen parking fine costs soar by 30% over the past two and a half years.
Commercial vehicle operators are likely to attract more fines during the games as they try to feed greater demand for goods against a backdrop of severe road restrictions.
“This summer is going to pose an enormous challenge for the logistics sector in London,” said Natalie Chapman, FTA’s Head of Policy for London. She continued “The last thing it needs are further financial burdens.
“Today’s decision by the Mayor will go a long way to stop the spiralling costs of delivering to businesses and residents in London during the Games, but it is equally important for Local Authorities to ensure that there is sufficient kerbside space and loading facilities for deliveries and for Civil Enforcement Officers to understand why trucks and vans may be in a restricted parking area in the first place, and apply some common sense when issuing tickets.”
