Red Sea crisis
In response to the Houthi rebels attacks on commercial shipping, all major shipping lines have now suspended services via the Suez Canal and Red Sea. Vessels have been diverted via the Cape of Good Hope adding approximately 10 days to transit times from the Far East to northern Europe. Even though the United States, as well as up to 30 other countries are likely to launch a naval operation in the area, this situation is likely to continue for the foreseeable future and put a severe strain on global supply chains.
